In the world of animals, the Lion is often referred to as the king. Even CS Lewis utilised the lion to describe Jesus in his book, ‘The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe’. But the lion in all of its power does not describe the fullness of the Character of Christ, just power and majesty.
So it is interesting that Jesus chose also to be the Lamb who was slain. He came gentle and kind and made himself helpless even though He is far from helpless in reality.
Jesus then went on to describe faith as being like a tiny mustard seed which then grows to be a huge tree. Once we ourselves gain this faith that Jesus talked about we begin to take on board the fact that Jesus is both the Lion and the Lamb. Powerful beyond measure yet willing to be slaughtered for us.
