Paul's imprisonment in Rome looked like a failure in the natural order of things. However Paul did not see it that way. Ever devoted to his Lord, he had long since come to that place where life was all for the honour of Jesus and the service of Him in the gospel according to the power of God. Paul expresses his joy in the Lord in the straits of adversity and seeming failure, as a testimony to the supremacy of Jesus, and the ever-advancing ministry of the gospel.
