Though mentioned so little in the gospels, Mary Magdalene presents to us that heart which is utterly devoted to Jesus, and has nowhere else to go, when all she has is a corpse in an inaccessible tomb. This is where we start with Jesus Christ, bankrupt of life with all our hope, such as it is, in to all appearance, a crucified Saviour and Lord.
