As Joshua prepares to lead the people of Israel across the Jordan river into the land of Canaan, we see both the physical land of Canaan as typical of Christ, the dwelling place of the people of God, as well as ethnic Israel composed of Israel after the flesh, and Israel according to promise - whom Paul designates as the "Israel of God."
